Josh Boone will helm a new Fox film set in the X-Men universe.

According to the report by Deadline, the series will be based on the already existing X-Men Comics and will introduce “a new crop of mutant characters born with special powers.”

Boone will also co-write the script with Knate Gwaltney. Simon Kinberg will produce with Lauren Shuler Donner.

“We’re so excited to explore this new part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters,” said producer Simon Kinberg.

Fox first collaborated with Josh Boone in last year’s The Fault in Our Stars, the successful film movie based on John Green’s best-selling novel. From a budget of only $12 million, the picture went on to earn $307 million in the worldwide box office.

X-Men is one of Fox’s most important properties at the moment, with three mutant films scheduled for release next year. Ryan Reynolds stars in a Deadpool solo film opening in February; followed by the May release of X-Men: Apocalypse, the sequel to last year’s Days of Future Past. Finally, in October the studio will premiere Gambit starring Channing Tatum.

No release date for The New Mutants was confirmed.
