After being forced to re-imagine their Spider-Man franchise due to this summer’s lukewarm success of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a new report suggests that Sony is planning to develop a female superhero movie set in the same universe.

The second installment in the Amazing Spider-Man series did good, but not as good as the studio expected (or hoped). Barely surpassing the $200 million mark, Sony decided to re-schedule future movies. First off, The Sinister Six (a spin-off centered around villains of the Spider-Man universe) was announced for November 11, 2016, while The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was pushed back by two years and will hit theaters some time in 2018.

Now, a new report from THR reveals that the studio has decided to develop a new film focusing on a female superhero. While no specific character was confirmed, some of the possibilities include Black Cat, Silver Sable and Spider-Woman. Sony has hired Lisa Joy to write the script, with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach set to produce.

Studios have been under fire in recent years for the lack of female leads in comic-based films. Depending on whether or not Sony decides to move forward with the project, this could very well be the first female superhero to get its own movie.
